GOLD MEDAL WINNER SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL WINE COMPETITION
Guest Vintner and Grower Dwight Busalacchi has been making wine ever since he was a child, working with his Italian Grandfather in San Francisco's North Beach. This 2013 Sauvignon Blanc is light and crisp, with good structure and acid balance resulting from warm days and cool nights that prevail in his "Mio Vigneto" or "My Little Vineyard" in Italian. This Sauvignon Blanc beat out every Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, at all price points, in this competition, so give it a try.
"Dry and crisp and overflowing in light floral aromas and melon flavors, with a distinct mineral finish similar to the French white wines of Bordeaux."
Notes from Dwight Busalacchi about the Mio Vigneto Vineyard:
Block One was planted in 2009 with two clones of Sauvignon Blanc on Rocklin Sand Loam soils located in the North West corner of our property.
This block was planted with two clones, 530 and Musque, to make a vibrant and complex wine.
Clone 530 - Gives tropical flavors with an intriguing addition of greenness – lemon, lime, quince, mineral and green apple, aromatic, with good acids
Musque Clone - A flamboyant Bordeaux clone giving a crisp, clean luscious wine with fresh ripe fruit, complex aromas and flavors of vibrant citrus, key lime, kiwi and melon with a creamy texture leading to a long lingering finish.
At lower brix, the “Musque Clone” has the same acidity as Sauvignon Blanc Clone 1 (Wente Clone). At higher brix, the “Musque Clone” exhibits fresh combinations of tropical, citrus, floral and exotic fruit in a honey-like elixir with great viscosity.
"Both clones are outstanding food friendly wines."
